Tanzania is one of the largest countries in sub-Saharan Africa and is home to more than 52 million people. Only 16% of Tanzanians have access to improved sanitation, and 12% still practice open defecation (WHO/UNICEF 2015).
SHARE has been working in Tanzania since its inception in 2010 on a range of projects including: urban sanitation, sanitation microfinance, and WASH and maternal health. We have also played a leading role in the evaluation of the Tanzanian National Sanitation Campaign and, have been requested to help with the programme design for the next phase of the campaign.
From 2015-2018, in addition to assisting with the redesign of the National Sanitation Campaign, SHARE will be working through our partners on the themes of WASH and nutrition and urban sanitation.
